Please start with the basics and post back with answers/results, including more information per the links at the end of this reply. The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?Be sure the computer is clean:http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareHelp us help you:http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Tech_Support - See "How to Write a Post" sectionhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 - How to Ask a QuestionMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I, too, started getting the same messages concerning svchost and generic host intermittently. I was using McAfee, but it must be worthless, because I had the pop-up fake virus issue. Installed Norton and had my computer examined by Dell tech support, but I think they did a poor job. I really fussed fwith them, because McAfee came installed on the computer and I feel Dell should have some reponsibility in installation of crappy program that harms the product. Of course, Dell was totally nonresponsive. They left the Malwarebytes program on my desktop. I ran that and found nothing. Run Norton 360 daily. Also tried a portable Super Antispyware, which seems very effective. With the above occasional error message, I receive frequently messages of blocked attacks and fake trojan's from Norton 360. I know there is still something on my computer but don't know where to turn!!! Although I have backed it up, working on my dissertation on the computer!!!Please advise!

Neither McAfee or Norton or particularly good. If going through the very thorough malware scanning steps detailed at the link I already gave the original poster back in July doesn't help you - and make sure you don't skip the preparatory work - you can get guided help at a specialty forum. Here are just a few where you can find MS MVPs and other trained analysts. Choose one of them, register, read its posting FAQ, follow the forum's directions.
